Get Felicia’s Look:
Bride-to-be Felicia Byrne, a cardiac nurse at The Nebraska Medical Center, was looking for wedding ideas and inspiration at the Omaha Bridal Showcase in September, 2012. She saw the popular contest for Omaha’s next Billboard Bride and joined the line of marriage-bound ladies having their photos taken. Her photo from the show got her to the finals. Felicia’s beauty and engaging personality helped judges narrow the field and select her as the winner.
“We are very proud of our billboard bride promotion,”says Tina Taylor, OBS producer. “Felicia represents the brides that come to our show. The Omaha Bridal Showcase is the only bridal show in Omaha that has a real bride on our promotional materials and on the billboards around town.”
As the new billboard bride, Felicia was surrounded by wedding professionals, each maximizing their specialty to make her photo shoot a success. Photographer, Complete’s skills were called upon to capture the perfect shot. His studio was the perfect setting to put Felicia at ease and get her used to smiling for the camera. Complete is dedicated to making their clients feel relaxed, in control, and having fun.
For many brides-to-be, it all starts with the gown. Our billboard bride is no exception. When Michelle Peterson at Exclusive Tuxedos and Dresses saw her beautiful hair and eyes, she knew Felicia had to have something fabulous. Michelle chose the DaVinci dress. Michelle says that “the dress is very versatile. It has two different lengths and can be unzipped for the shorter version for the reception.” Exclusive Tuxedos and Dresses is your one-stop shop for all your bridal needs. Their inventory is located on the premises which ensures a perfect fit.
Teez salon transformed Felicia’s hair and makeup. A modern look with dramatic eyes, and a soft, natural face was created. Teez is all about hair care, and they have specialists that can share their expertise in cutting, coloring, and more.
Felicia says that “the September Bridal Showcase was my very first bridal fair. By attending the bridal show I was able to get tons of helpful planning guides, catalogs, taste testing, samples of work, and great advice from vendors who have been in the business for years. Meeting the vendors in person also gave me some insight on who I would work well with. I was able to get great ideas about things that I haven’t even considered yet. Not only was it a great way to get me started on my wedding planning, but it was a fun day of bonding with my mother, mother-in-law to be, and both my sisters-in-law to be.”
“Meet me at The Fountains”. This is what Felicia and her fiancé Evan said to each other often at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They met at the fountains after class every day. They met at the fountains to go to lunch together. They met at the fountains to skip class and waste an afternoon talking about nothing. Remembering the day she got engaged and “The Fountains”still makes her smile.
“It was a crazy hot day, and I had decided to spend it in Lincoln with my friend, Rachel, from college. After lunch Rachel and I decided to grab some frozen yogurt and finished up the day wandering around campus. I don’t do hot weather well, so we ended up wading in The Fountains behind the UNL Union to cool off.
“I only tolerated the glaring sun because Rachel was having fun messing around in the water. I was overheated, irritated, and worst of all, my yogurt had melted. To add insult to injury, Rachel was more into what was going on in her phone than talking to me. (Unbeknownst to me, Evan was texting her to have her stall just a little longer; he had gotten trapped in a parking garage with a broken exit system. The bar would not go up!) Rachel started making pointless conversation. Then, mid sentence, she awkwardly started side stepping out of the water, left her shoes behind, and then just ran away. One of my favorite things about Rachel is how unpredictable she can be. But this, this was the moment I thought she went from flaky to downright crazy.
“As I turned around, I saw Evan standing right behind me. Then, he took my hand and said, “Felicia, you’re my best friend, and I love you very much, and if you’ll let me, I’d love to spend the rest of my life making you happy.”Then he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said…‘Seriously?’and he smiled. Still in shock I asked, ‘Are you sure?’And finally, ‘Did you ask my father?’He gave me a smile and a reassuring yes and asked me again. This time I just screamed, ‘YES!’and jumped into his arms!
“Meet me at the Fountains. ‘ I had nearly forgotten how poignant The Fountains were to us. After meeting at the fountains time & time again, I met him at the fountains one last time and he asked me to marry him.”
